Cancer is a Beast
Cancer is one nasty beast, and has been savagely hunting my family this last year. I've lost two aunts and an uncle to lung cancer in the last few months. As well, my mom had lung cancer. My uncle went in for lung surgery, but he had been diagnosed too late and there was nothing that could be done. He was sewn back together and sent on his way. He had a coughing fit and the stitches blew, he drowned. One aunt had lung removal surgery, and continued smoking. The cancer turned up in the other lung. Before anything could be done, she had a stroke. Her family took her off of life support, she regained consciousness, then died three days later of starvation due to the DNR (do not revive) order. My other aunt, though she had lung cancer, died a painful death of kidney failure. Now my mom, she had a lobectomy, part of her lung was removed. She recovered, and has the odd battle with lung infections and pneumonia, but is otherwise doing fine. I think she has an angel on her shoulder. Which is great, because she's gonna need all of the strength she can muster. My sister, who has leukemia and is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant, has just been diagnosed with lung cancer in both lungs. Cancer is a truly nasty beast.
